The Beast from the Sea

The idea that the Beast from the Sea is the "Antichrist" comes from the apostle John's epistles. He defines antichrist as one who deceives and denies God the Father and / or His Son Jesus Christ. While this definition applies to anyone, the Antichrist is applied to one individual who comes in "the last hour."

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. (1 John 2:18-22)

Comparing John's Revelation with Daniel, both describe the Beast from the Sea as a fearful unfamiliar animal with ten horns (Dan 7:7-8; Rev 13:1) and with great worldwide political power (Dan 7:23; Rev 13:2-4). Moreover, the Antichrist will speak “arrogant words with blasphemies against God" (Rev 13:5-6; Dan 7:8).

With Satan's power and authority, the Antichrist is given a time of 3-1/2 years to act, to make war and conquer the saints, to rule every nation given to him, and to receive worship from around the world (Rev 13:5-8).

Daniel had a similar prophecy including the destruction of the Antichrist and his entire kingdom, and he used the ancient phrase "times, and half a time" to refer to 3-1/2 years of rule (Dan 7:19-26).
