Son of Man

When the apostle John hears a voice and sees Jesus, he sees "one like a Son of Man," and falls at His feet. Jesus confirms John's identification, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades" (Rev 1:17-18).

Introduced by the prophet Daniel, the phrase "Son of Man" is portrayed as the future King who returns in a spectacular manner (Dan 7:13-14).

When Jesus Christ came to earth, He connected the Son of Man with the Messiah who atones for iniquity (Matt 20:28; Dan 9:24-25), and He also connected the Son of Man with the Eschatological Judge (Matt 16:27; Mark 13:24-27; 14:61-62).
