Approach: When Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, it is a very difficult prayer. Jesus is asking if there is any possible way that He can avoid the work of atonement but in accordance to the will of God.

Hermeneutic objective: Observing the text with emotion helps one understand the gravity of Jesus' situation as He anticipates the work of atoning for the world's sins.

Theological objective: Prayers of salavation are fervent, unceasing, and persistent.
