Approach: Learning about the tongue and about ourselves.
Hermeneutic objective: An introduction to some common figures of speech and their impact on our understanding of the tongue.
Theological objective: What comes out of one's mouth is a reflection of one's heart. God reveals through Jeremiah what it is like without
God and speaks of the heart as "being deceitful" and wonders "who can understand it?" (Jer 17:9). James provides concrete examples of the evil side
of the tongue especially when boasting.
