Approach: Reading a couple of Isaiah's prophecies, identifying their messianic nature, and examining their figures of speech.
Hermeneutic objective: Comparing the Old Testament messianic prophecies with its corresponding New Testament citation to understand
how Jesus fulfilled them.
Theological objective: In identifying Jesus as the Suffering Servant, Isaiah 53 provides strong evidence that He is the Messiah. The
Suffering Servant demonstrates the true nature of servanthood where one puts aside self-glorification and obediently follows God's word.
After Jesus' Ascension, the apostles' reference to messianic prophecies associate Jesus Christ with the Passover lamb so that the Suffering
Servant's voluntary sacrificial death is understood within the context of atoning for sin. The resulting atonement opens the way for repentance
and forgiveness – the healing of one's relationship with God.
