Because God works within a legal framework, is there a sequence of events between adoption and when a Believer receives
the Holy Spirit?
1. Carefully observe these two passages. Do you understand all of the terms? Do you observe a sequence between adoption
and regeneration?
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to
redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his
Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you
are his child, God has made you also an heir. (Gal 4:4-7, NIV)
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your
salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing
our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Eph 1:13-14, NIV)
2. In the process of initial salvation, God and a person is involved with a variety of steps to salvation. Arrange the
sequence of events that takes place that God does and what a person does to become a Believer. Work this out with your
friends!
What God does before and after one comes to faith:
Regenerate, Call, Adopt, Elect, Justify, Draw
What a person does to become a Believer:
Faith, Repent, Confess
