Dr. Norman Geisler

speaker

One of today's premier theologians and philosophers, Dr. Norman L. Geisler is a prominent, highly articulate voice in the ongoing debate over Christianity in America. A committed evangelical and a skilled apologist, he is not one to shrink from public controversy. Geisler first caught the attention of the national spotlight when he testified in the Scopes II creation/evolution trial in Arkansas in 1981. Since then, he has continued to write tirelessly and to serve as a Christian "defense champion" in the midst of the 20th century's culture wars.

Norm Geisler was born in 1932 and educated at William Tyndale College and Wheaton College. He taught at Detroit Bible College from 1963 to 1966, and chaired the department of philosophy of religion at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School from 1970 to 1979. From there, he moved to Dallas Theological Seminary, where he taught systematic theology from 1979 to 1988, and after that he became dean of Liberty Center for Research at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Geisler earned his Ph.D. from Loyola University in Chicago. He has served as a professor at some of the finest seminaries in the United States, including Trinity Evangelical Seminary, Dallas Seminary, and Southern Evangelical Seminary. H now lends his talents to Veritas Evangelical Seminary in Murrieta, California as the Distinguished Professor of Apologetics.

Norm has written and co-authored over 80 books during his lifetime including When Cultists Ask and When Critics Ask (co-authored with Ron Rhodes), as well as Answering Islam (co-authored with Abdul Saleeb) and Christian Apologetics. In a recent letter to the friends of Southern Evangelical Seminary, Norm drew readers' attention to a verse that might well summarize his own life and work: "In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." -- 1 Peter 3:15. (NormanGeisler.com)
