Holly Pivec

speaker

My name is Holly Pivec, and I write about the New Apostolic Reformation, apologetics, and theology. I equip Christians to be discerning and to evaluate all their beliefs based on Scripture and careful reasoning.

I grew up in a Christian home and discovered Christian apologetics when I was in junior high, after my father gave me a book written by Josh McDowell. That's when I understood that Christianity is not based on blind belief or wishful thinking, but it's founded on factual evidence—including the historical evidence for Christ's resurrection. That discovery strengthened my faith and emboldened me to share it with others.

Unfortunately, a number of churches today are not teaching their young people about the solid basis for their Christian faith. Rather, they promote novel teachings and practices that do not have the support of Scripture. Many of these churches are led by the so-called "apostles" and "prophets" of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), including the most prominent NAR church today—Bethel Church in Redding, California. NAR teachings and practices have divided families, split churches, stunted the spiritual growth of believers, and left countless Christians disillusioned by promises of healing and miraculous power that haven't panned out. They've also damaged the church's witness to a watching world. I've devoted much of my efforts to warning people about this dangerous movement that has made inroads into thousands of churches across the United States and around the world.

I have a master's degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University. I was the University Editor at Biola for nearly a decade and also served as managing editor of the award-winning Biola Magazine. Together with Biola professor Doug Geivett, I co-authored three books about NAR: Counterfeit Kingdom: The Dangers of New Revelation, New Prophets, and New Age Practices in the Church; A New Apostolic Reformation?: A Biblical Response to a Worldwide Movement, and God's Super-Apostles: Encountering the Worldwide Prophets and Apostles Movement.
